i also have a 2 6 color desert dcu that were patched with tan insignia when they first came out, we all got and badged one set. the patches, nametapes and skill/combat badges came from o.k. sewing on bragg blvd(now "airborne zone i,still on bragg blvd, and airborne zone ii on yadin at braggs back gate iirc),so if oyu ever see a 6 color set with all tan shit and someone tells you "it isnt right because "they" only wore od stuff on them at this time" tell them to email me. it was done by damn near every soldier in sf or the 82nd at bragg because it was consitered "high speed" and "new" at the time. much like wearing multicam or aor camo is now.....
yeah, there was a mix of od and tan, the tan patches were not very plentiful, and were sort of exspensive, so thats why everybody only (usually) did only 1 dcu set at the time, and when tan patches became "standard", the 3 color dcus were "in" and 6 color was out, at least to top teir units.
most dcus had nothing, or just branch/name,especially in sf/sof units. the badged ones were only for things like staff meetings, of "dog and pony" shows, unless you were assigned to centcom or soc-cent,where they wer your everyday uniform, then you had4-6 fully badged sets that were starched, and then you had your "field" sets, which you wore on ftx and field duty, and had the minimum of patches and were beat to hell."in country" made patches were rare during ods/s btw, as there wasnt many places thet made the stuff, but you could get name and branch tapes, as well as very crude embroidered on twill ssi's.
