Sgt. Aaron D. Denning, the team chief of Advisor Team 2 attached to Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, shares a moment of laughter and cheering with an Afghan boy and Afghan soldier during an operation in Sareagar Village, Aug. 25. The two-day operation increased the International Security Assistance Force presence throughout the village and enabled the Marines to focus on interacting with the population. Denning, a Simi Valley, Calif., native and 2005 graduate of Royal High School is deployed to Sangin District, Afghanistan, on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. “There is a time and place for things and emotions. When you are outside the wire you have to be very careful about what emotions you let take control of you,” said Denning, who was wounded in action last month.

Seaman Jordan Baker, a hospital corpsman in support of Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, hands out candy to a group of kids during an operation to surge the Sareagar Village, Aug. 25. The two-day operation increased the Coalition forces presence throughout the village and enabled the Marines to focus on interacting with the population. The Walnut Creek, Calif., native and 2006 graduate of Las Lomas High School is deployed to Sangin District, Afghanistan, on the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. “I definitely feel like I am doing a lot more deployed on 9/11 than my friends back home,” said Baker, who was wound in action last month. “It’s a sense of patriotism that the majority of Americans will never feel.”
Lance Cpl. David Makara, a team leader of 1st Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, coordinates a support by fire position with a fellow team leader following an early morning insert during an operation in the Northern Sangin “green zone,” Aug. 3. The Marines of 1st Platoon lead the battalion in casualties but continue to remain focused on their mission and remember their fallen brothers as they are deployed for the 10th anniversary of 9/11. “Everyone will remember that day and I think that is a good thing, but remembering the day out here is a whole different story, because we don’t want to give the enemy the upper hand or think that they got one up on us. So for me it’s just another day,” said Makara, a 2008 graduate of Lakewood Michigan High School. “The fact that 10 years later we are still patrolling in one of the most deadly places on earth, shows that we still care no matter what the cost.” Makara, wounded in action, became a team leader for the infantry squad after his team leader was wounded in action during the deployment.

Giusto in quel momento vennero a dirgli che il Re voleva parlargli.
Veramente non era il Re che voleva parlargli, perché il Re non parla con nessuno, ma uno di coloro per bocca dei quali parla il Re, quando ha da dire qualche cosa.
