    HI RES

September 18, 2010, U.S. Marine Capt. Peter Hersey, Force Reconnaissance Platoon (FRP) Commander, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, exchanges information with a U.S. Navy prize team leader with the forward deployed amphibious assault ship U.S.S. Essex (LHD 2), during a Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) exercise aboard the U.S. Navy Ship Alan Shepard in support of exercise Valiant Shield, which is part of a certification exercise conducted by the 31st MEU

    HI RES

September 18, 2010, U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Bradley Rusher, Communications Chief, Force Reconnaissance Platoon (FRP), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, communicates with other FRP Marines during a Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) exercise aboard the U.S. Navy Ship Alan Shepard in support of exercise Valiant Shield, which is part of a certification exercise conducted by the 31st MEU

    HI RES

September 18, 2010, a U.S. Marine with the Maritime Raid Force, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Battalion Landing Team, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, holds secuity during a Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) exercise aboard the U.S. Navy Ship Alan Shepard in support of exercise Valiant Shield, which is part of a certification exercise conducted by the 31st MEU

    HI RES

September 18, 2010, U.S. Marines with the Maritime Raid Force, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Battalion Landing Team, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, hold security on a passageway during a Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) exercise aboard the U.S. Navy Ship Alan Shepard in support of exercise Valiant Shield, which is part of a certification exercise conducted by the 31st MEU

    HI RES

Marines with Combined Anti-Armor Team 2, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, make a turn to head towards a simulated enemy in an Interim Fast Attack Vehicle during an airfield seizure mission, part of the MEU's Certification Exercise in Guam, Sept. 19

Questa fa molto apocalypse now, ci manca solo la cavalcata delle valchirie sotto

    HI RES

Six CH-46E Sea Knight helicopters with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (Reinforced), known as the Flying Tigers, approach a landing site near Apra Harbor on the island of Guam, Sept. 19. The helicopters flew from the USS Essex (LHD 2) transporting Marines of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to perform a simulated airfeild seizure in support of the MEU's Certification Exercise. The 31st MEU is holding CERTEX in Guam in conjunction with the Valiant Shield exercise already underway

Captain Jeffery Wright, officer in charge, and Cpl. Lance Roberts with Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO), 26th MEU, evaluate a possible landing zone during a Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) exercise in Djibouti, Sept. 24, 2010. 26th MEU continues to support relief operations in Pakistan and is also serving as the theater reserve force as elements of the MEU conduct training and planned exercises
