Army Mulls Women in Combat Arms Units


The Army is studying whether to open combat arms units to female Soldiers, the Army's top officer said Jan. 6.
"We're looking at revising the policy," Gen. George W. Casey Jr. told a breakfast gathering of the Association of the U.S. Army in Arlington, Va. "We've had some work going on for a while, and that'll double back up to the secretary, I would think, in the next couple of months."
Women are currently barred from infantry, armor and Special Forces branches, Casey said. He did not say whether the Army is considering opening up all three areas to women, but he did say the study looked at the possibility of women in infantry.

Army Announces Camouflage Improvement Effort Finalists

After several delays, the Army has chosen four finalists in their Army Camouflage Improvement Effort. The Army conducted an exhaustive down select using a picture-in-picture technique with 900 Soldiers viewing the patterns in 45 environments. There was a candidate pool of around 20 families of patterns each sharing common pattern geometries but with individual colorways for Woodland, Desert, and Transitional environments with a possible fourth pattern for Organizational Clothing and Individual Equipment. This optional OCIE pattern would blend in with the other patterns so that separate sets of PPE would not have to be purchased to match each pattern. Some developers satisfied this requirement with their Transitional pattern.

ADS Inc, partnered with Guy Cramer is a finalist in the US Army Camouflage Improvement Effort. While we can’t show you their winning patterns (Alpha) just yet, we are able to show you another family of patterns they submitted called Delta. Both Alpha and Delta are so-called digital patterns and in both instances, ADS submitted a full four patterns (Arid, Woodland, Transitional, and OCIE).

Lo sapevate (alcuni di voi sicuramente) che i primi ad avere in dotazione x l'AFGHANISTAN la multicam,parlo di fanteria (AIRBORNE ecc...) non forze speciali quindi,sono stati il 173rd Airborne Brigade di Vicenza?! spero di non aver preso un'abbaglio...

Non mi risulta che la 173rd sia stata la prima ad avere in dotazione la multicam tra le truppe regolari.
La 173rd è stata dispiegata per la terza volta in Afghanistan circa da Novembre 2009 a Novembre 2010 (OEF X). I test sul campo per il nuovo mimetismo da usare in Afghanistan si sono svolti verso la fine 2009 ad opera di unità diverse dalla 173rd -4th ID e 82nd- (dovevano scegliere tra la multicam e l' UPC-Delta). Ufficialmente la multicam o meglio la "OCP uniform" è stata distribuita da agosto 2010, alle nuove unità che erano in dispiegamento (tipo la 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division), ma non ad un unità che dovevano rimanere in AO per ancora soli 2/3 mesi o poco più.
