Like the new Marine Corps Pack System (originally called FILBE), it looks to be a Government owned design. They aren’t looking for industry’s good ideas. They’ve already seen those at trade shows and site visits. Instead, they’re looking for companies to tell them how they’ll build them and for how much.
Bravo to the Marines for updating the Corpsman pack. However, RFIs like this don’t make much sense, at least for their intended purpose. They’re still building Marine Corps Pack System and know what is out there manufacturing-wise and what it costs. All it serves to do is to cost a company money to answer the RFI. And, the RFI even admits:
“THE SUBMISSION OF THIS INFORMATION IS FOR PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY AND IS NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS A COMMITMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT TO PROCURE ANY ITEMS/SERVICES, NOR FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO PAY FOR THE INFORMATION RECEIVED. NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENT EXISTS.”
Rather, look at this as a warning order that something is coming down the pipe. Interested companies have until 1 December. Good luck!

Modular Armor System (MAS)
Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) is conducting market research, and identifying potential sources and best practice information towards designing, developing, and procuring a Modular Armor System. The system will allow the individual Marine to configure and tailor the armor level based on mission requirements.
The United States Marine Corps (USMC) envisions at this time a single system that will be capable of providing the area of coverage of the current USMC Plate Carrier and expanding to a soft armor area of coverage equal to the USMC Improved Modular Tactical Vest (IMTV) with the Pelvic Protective System Protective Overgarment (POG). The system will be able to provide supplemental armor protection to the extremities.
The envisioned system will either integrate with current hard armor ballistic plates or a new hard armor plate design. There are no constraints on symmetry or materiel for soft and hard armor. Hard Armor threat defeat capability equal to that of the XSAPI is required with a desired maximum allowable areal density of 7.0 pounds per square foot. The soft armor performance within the torso and extremity regions is required to possess performance equal to the OTV CO-PD-00-2G with a desired maximum allowable areal density of .85 pounds per square foot. The carrier will possess the Pouch Attachment Ladder System (PALS) webbing for the mounting of modular pouches, have a single pull emergency release located on the center of the vest below the neckline and integrate with the USMC Chest Rig without impeding the quick release of the carrier.
The desired system will not exceed the cumulative weight of the IMTV with torso and flank plates. This suite will enable the individual Marine to configure components to best meet specific mission requirements by optimizing/balancing human factors engineering (e.g. comfort and usability), integration with fielded Load Carriage Equipment (LCE) and cost (production and maintenance).
Berry Amendment compliance will apply to any and all demonstrated designs. A limited quantity (i.e. up to 30) of evaluation systems may be requested under a bailment agreement to support user evaluation activities based on market research results. No user evaluations are planned prior to June 2012.
The USMC is currently performing market research to learn applicable/proven best practices (note: the Modular Armor System’s attributes have not yet been finalized).
Within that effort, the USMC wants to leverage its expertise in USMC operational needs and related constraints with industries’ established expertise and capabilities to design and develop best value solutions. Therefore, the USMC is taking the following market research step and requesting information from interested companies on: (1) best approaches to satisfy the above needs with a completely new, innovative solution, (2) reviewing industry capabilities to satisfy the above needs with an updated solution that includes reuse of in-service components (i.e. plates, soft armor) of fielded system.
Interested parties shall furnish the Program Management Office (PMO) with written or electronic materials concerning their capability to address the above requirements.

Per quanto riguarda Portorico, solo per fare il maestrino :P, é una sorta di protettorato USA, solo negli ultimi 20-30 anni? si é andato a formare un governo autonomo, ma per il resto dipende tutto e per tutto dagli Stati Uniti.

Son curioso di sapere nome del modello e produttore, oggi con calma spulcerò google.
L'assault pack è decisamente migliore dell'attuale, ha delle soluzioni più intelligenti ed è più versatile. Poi finalmente abbiamo un utility pouch ufficiale :D Il main pack non mi convince, come forma e soluzioni forse è meglio il vecchio (parlo solo degli scomparti, non del frame).
La cosa che mi fa rodere sul serio è che hanno cambiato pure la sacca d'idratazione. Che bisogno c'era? :D La source era fatta davvero bene....

Il contratto d'appalto per il FILBE è stato vinto dalla eagle industries ( M67854-11-D-3071 ) e dalla propper international ( M67854-11-D-3070 ) e a quanto pare si chiamerà semplicemente USMC pack, main e assault.

A me alletta molto l'Assault Pack...a mio avviso è molto meglio del predecessore!
prenderlo ora è da scemi, anche perchè ai fini del reenacting, si può aspettare anche l'anno prossimo. Si parla di ottobre per la fine delle consegne dei nuovi zaini a tutte le unità e quindi fino al 2013, se uno utilizzerà il suo caro e vecchio ILBE marpat sui suoi setup, non succederà nulla.
@red: mi sa che non ti ricordi quanto sono grande... forse tu e danotz o tu e jarhead c'entrate, ma io sicuramente no :D
@gigno: già, pure secondo me è decisamente meglio. L'assault pack vecchio ha il grosso difetto che non ha gli scomparti fatti bene e per trovare la roba devi fare la caccia al tesoro. Questo nuovo sembra progettato meglio.

A me il vecchio assault ILBE non dispiaceva, aveva anche la cintura lombare e lo schienale rigido che sono un must secondo me.
Ho letto un articolo su Miltary.com che parla di un contartto dell'USMC con Smith & Wesson and Springfield Armory, di $22.5 mln per 12.000 1911 in .45 in colore Coyote TAN come nuova pistola CQB per i MARSOC.

Nuovo vest in arrivo
sono indeciso.... è la nuova versione dell'IMTV o un vest a parte?
Perchè secondo la logica del corpo, dal 2006-7 ad oggi sono sempre stati issued 2 tipi di vest: un plate carrier più snello che da una certa mobilità (SPC/ISPC) e un body armor più ingombrante ma che offre molta piùprotezione (MTV/IMTV), però l'IMTV è stato introdotto un paio di anni fa se non ricordo male e avevo sentito parlare di un nuovo progetto per un vest "multiruolo", che si integri bene con il resto dell'equipaggiamento e che sia configurabile a piacere. Che sia questo?

Penso che questo sia il multiruolo, considerando anche il nome "Modular Scalable Vest"... già questo sembra un po' una fusione tra i precedenti vest.
Molti grunt comunque si stanno già lamentando senza nemmeno averlo provato... d'altronde pure a me sembra indietro rispetto all'SPC stesso
ma infatti non ha senso farlo uscire in questo momento a pochi anni dall'adozione degli ISPC e IMTV
Vogliono "risparmiare" con un unico vest capace di ricoprire il ruolo di entrambi semplicemente attaccando/staccando componenti.
Molti però sono dubbiosi sul sistema nero (zona spina dorsale) che dovrebbe alleggerire il carico
non risparmiano cambiando un vest ogni 2 anni :D
Per questo ho usato le virgolette... Ma vai farglielo capire al dipartimento della difesa US! Boh!
